PEP/PrEP

PEP and PrEP are for people who are at high risk of HIV transmission but are currently negative for HIV. They can work to keep the virus from establishing an infection.

Scope of Service

PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis) and PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) are treatment plans intended for people who are at high risk of HIV transmission but are currently negative for HIV.

  • Emergency PEP is available at our clinic and will be prescribed by an experienced doctor. PEP must be taken within 72 hours to stop an HIV infection.
  • PrEP is also available at our clinic.
  • We offer a new formulation for PrEP with no serious side effects.

Facts about PEP/PrEP

In case that this is your first time taking PrEP, you need to first consult with a doctor. Or if you want to take PEP in an emergency, you need be guided by a doctor as well.

When you use it correctly, PrEP can lower your chances of getting HIV from sex. However, PrEP does not prevent other STDs.

PEP is a treatment plan for after a person is exposed, while PrEP is a treatment plan to prevent HIV before a person is exposed. For more information, please visit our website here.

Most adults can safely use PEP or PrEP, but our doctors will need to determine if you have kidney disease, liver disease, drug allergy, or are pregnant. Please notify our staff if you have these conditions.

The most common side effects are nausea, upset stomach, dizziness, and fatigue. However, these symptoms usually get better or go away after a few days. To prevent side effects, take PEP/PrEP with a meal to make them less noticeable.

There are two different ways that you can take PrEP.

  • Daily PrEP: Daily PrEP is suitable for people of any gender identity (cis-gender man, cis-gender woman, or transgender man or woman) by taking 1 pill once a day, every day.
  • On-Demand PrEP: On-demand PrEP is only for cis-gender men who have sex with men. On-demand PrEP involves taking 2 pills, 2-24 hours before sexual exposure to HIV, and then continuing to take 1 pill each day until 2 days after their last sexual exposure.
